Paul Joseph Younger

Paul Joseph Younger was a dedicated math teacher, dancer, dependable neighbor, and lover of celebration and travel. He passed away peacefully on July 13th, 2026, in Scottsdale, AZ, at the age of 85. He was a mathematics instructor at Front Range Community College from 1969-1998.

Paul was born on November 16th, 1940, in a small farmhouse south of Park, Kansas. Paul’s father, a school teacher and later a principal, stressed the importance of education and hard work. Paul began his education in St. Elmo, a one room schoolhouse, north of Park, Kansas. After graduating high school, he attended Fort Hayes State University. He was the first in his family to earn a bachelor’s degree. During his summers in college, Paul worked on a wheat combine. He labored his way through Texas to North Dakota. In college, he played intramural basketball and loved playing it throughout his life.

After college, Paul taught math and geography at St. John’s Military School, an Episcopal boarding school in Salina, Kansas. As a dedicated Catholic, he left that position after a disagreement about his taking students to worship on Sundays at the cathedral in Salina, Kansas. His Catholic faith was essential to him. Paul was a proud, dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus. 

In the middle of the space race in 1966, Paul was awarded the opportunity to study for a Master of Science degree at the University of Dayton in Ohio on an NSF Grant. As a Dayton Flyer, he met Arlene (Reichert) Younger who was studying chemistry. Arlene and Paul married on August 19, 1967. They had four children - Teresa, Michelle, Steven and Paula.

Arlene and Paul built a house on an 11-acre farm outside Brighton, Colorado in 1973. Arlene designed the house and her brother Francis Reichert drew the architectural plans. Arlene and Paul loved celebrating and hosted an annual pig roast with many friends and family with a nearby tornado adding to the festivities one year. When not teaching or bowling, Paul spent much of his time tending to the farm. Paul loved long weekends hunting with his close friends and sometimes his son, Steven. Paul also believed in volunteering and received the Red Sweater Award as an outstanding volunteer at The Brighton Senior Center in 2017. Paul’s goal after retirement in 1998 was to travel around the world. In 2000, after 32 years of marriage, Arlene died tragically in a car crash. 

In 2002, Paul married Beverly Jones and moved to Firestone, Colorado. Beverly Jones Younger passed away in 2025.

Paul is survived by his children: Teresa Hübscher-Younger (Roland Hübscher), Michelle Galloway (Wes Galloway), Steven Younger (Georgiana Halterman) and Paula Younger (Jason Muñoz); his grandchildren Hugh Galloway, Sophia Hübscher, Cayla Younger, Cole Younger, Evan Muñoz and Celia Muñoz; sisters Delores Worthington and Mary Zerr Entz (Dave Entz); Beverly’s children Mike Jones and Debbie Jones Lanning; grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael Andrew Younger and Mary Ann (Augustine) Whitaker; his brother, Gerald Younger; his sister, Patricia (Younger) Falley. Paul has left his children and grandchildren with a legacy of hard work and education, along with many grateful students who excelled because of his patient explanations of algebraic equations.

Family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am, Friday, August 21, 2026, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with a recitation of the rosary at 10:30 am. Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 am. The Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Honor Guard will serve as a guard of honor during the mass. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. A reception will follow interment at the Alli Event Center.
