Richard Dennis Obituary

Richard G. Dennis

Richard G. Dennis, age 78, passed away peacefully at his home in Brighton, CO on April 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 28, 1947, in Kalispell, MT to Fred and ErmaJean (Deshner) Dennis where he spent most of his upbringing. He graduated from Lambert High School in Whitefish, Montana in 1966, and did one year of college in Washington before enlisting in the Navy in 1967.

Richard spent four years in the military and performed many duties. He served on the aircraft carrier, the “Kitty Hawk”, and after that he became a swift boater. Shortly after, he went into navel special operations as an S.O.G. (Specialist on Ground). He was a proud Vietnam veteran, even though he unfortunately inherited health problems on the count of being sprayed by “agent orange” during one of his tours. Despite the lifelong injuries, Richard was proud to serve his country in the United States Navy. After his deployment, Richard married Patricia Flaherty on November 15, 1974, at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Richard found work as an Adams County Deputy, as a carpenter, then as a truck driver and a gunsmith. He truly was a jack of all trades who found enjoyment in hard work and using his hands. He loved to shoot guns, watch and collect movies, partake in model building, collect coins and he loved to read. Richard was also well known for being the caretaker for his oldest grandson Sean, whom he formed an inseparable bond with. Richard will truly be missed by all of his friends and family.

Richard is survived by his spouse, Patricia (Flaherty) Dennis, of Brighton, CO. By his two sons, Michael (Jill) Dennis, of Lochbuie, CO, and Stephen (Leticia) Dennis, of Thornton, CO. Three siblings, “Moky” Berdette (Fay) Dennis, of Sidney, MT, Eugene (Pearl) Dennis, of Weld County, CO, and Guy (Angela) Dennis, of Ault, CO, also by, three grandchildren, Sean, Zachary and Josie Dennis. He is preceded in death by both parents, Fred “Fritz” (ErmaJean) Dennis, and four siblings; CleoAnn, Fred and Charles “Chuck” (Doris) Dennis, and Phyllis (Larry) Swenson.
