Bob Abeyta was born on October 4th 1942 to Melaquias and Eleanor Abeyta. He was the 5th of 14 children and grew up in Brighton, Colorado. Bob attended Brighton High School and was on the wrestling team. After High school Bob enlisted in the Army and spent part of his service years in Germany.
In 1966, Bob married Ruth Zuniga and they have 2 children Gene (Amy) Abeyta and DeAnna (Charlene) Abeyta. Years later, Bob met Nicky Ruiz and they married in 1996. Nicky has 2 children, Michelle (Teena) Espinosa and Mathew (Bernadette) Espinosa. Bob has 4 grandchildren; Robert Gallegos, Marcus Espinosa, Esai Espinosa and David Fleeson as well as 2 great grandchildren, Damian and Kyroah Gallegos.
He worked at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center as a warehouseman and he retired in 1994. He kept busy in the years following retirement playing golf, bowling and playing/coaching softball as well as working part time. He also loved the Broncos, Nuggets and Rockies and enjoyed all of these activities with his children and grandchildren. Bob kept in touch with his many friends and family on a daily basis and he loved to joke and tell stories about his life and family.
He was proceeded in death by his mother and father Eleanor and Melaquias Abeyta, his brothers; Mel, Dan, Sam, Steve Abeyta and sister Elaine Gonzales. He is survived by his wife, Nicky, his 4 children, 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 8 brothers and sisters.
Services will be held on Wednesday March 2 at 11:00am at Tabor Funeral Home, 75 S 13th Avenue Brighton, CO 80601. Graveside services to follow at Ft Logan Cemetery. Reception to be held at the Columbian House, 3pm, 1096 E Bridge Street in Brighton, CO
