Robert B. Ellis Jr., age 96, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2020 in Brighton, Colorado. He was born on November 2, 1924 to Robert B. and Ellen S. (Sanderson) Ellis in Eaton, Colorado. During his upbringing, Robert attended schools in the surrounding Eaton area, ultimately graduating from Eaton High School in 1942. After high school, Robert successfully pursued a Master’s Degree at Denver University and just a few years later, he married the love of his life, Ruth Shirley (Carlson) Ellis, on January 1, 1949, in a quaint marriage ceremony at his parents’ house in Denver. They were happily married for over 60 years.
For work, Robert was most well known for being a teacher in the Brighton School District, which he did for over 35 years. He taught 9th grade history, civics and government, and was adored by many of his students and peers. During the summers to stay busy, Robert enjoyed wheat farming for he was always trying to stay active. He was also an active member of the Brighton Masonic Lodge, which he also participated in for over 50 years. After retiring from teaching, he still had the knack to stay busy and worked at United Furniture Brokers in Brighton for a brief period of time. After that endeavor he then opened “Ellis Audio Visual” a business of his own, in Lakewood, which ended up being his last job until his full retirement from working.
For fun and leisure, Robert loved to drive old, antique cars any time he would get the opportunity to do so. He enjoyed riding in parades, and loved to include his friends another fellow veterans in those types of activities with him. Robert was also a devoted husband, father, and grandfather to all of his family members. He enjoyed deer hunting, creating lifelong friendships with old friends and work colleagues, and was always a sincere and honest man. Robert once was a participant in the Honor Flight, which escorted WWII veterans to the WWII memorial, which was an act that showed how devoted and caring he was to not only his immediate family but to his military family as well. Robert was an astonishing, hardworking man, with many tales and stories, and he will be deeply missed by many of those whom had the opportunity to know him.
Robert is survived by his two children; Karen Ellis of Berthoud, Colorado, and Susan (Dan) Acheson of Aurora, Colorado. Along by one grandson, Ian Acheson of Aurora, Colorado, and by a number of loving nieces and nephews. Robert is preceded in death by both of his parents; Robert B. and Ellen S. (Sanderson) Ellis, and his spouse Ruth Shirley (Carlson) Ellis.
