Rodrick Kemp Obituary

After serving his community for 34 years, Rodrick Kemp a recently retired Deputy Sheriff, passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 6, 2020 at the age of 56.

Rodrick was born in Mobile, Alabama on August 25, 1963 to Eugene and Rosemary Pugh.  He was raised in Denver, Colorado and graduated from Montebello High School in 1981.  Rodrick was an accomplished football player in High School and earned the letter jacket for his outstanding play. He continued his education and football career and was honored with a scholarship to attend Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. He attended college for two years before returning to Denver and obtaining his career as a Deputy Sheriff.

Among his many redeeming qualities, his devotion to his family and friends stands out.  Rodrick was an exceptional husband and father who loved to travel and spend quality time learning about other places in the world.  Words cannot describe the amazing ability Rod had to connect with children of all ages.  The kids named Rod “Papa Rod” as he was respected by all those he encountered.  His guidance was unwavering.  You could always count on Rod.  He loved to entertain his friends with hilarious conversation while eating smoked or BBQ meats that he meticulously prepared for his family and friends.

Rodrick was an outstanding Sheriff Deputy who was respected by his fellow peers.  He was recognized as a Deputy who was very knowledgeable about the inner workings of the department.

If Rodrick wasn’t on the golf course, you could find him with a club in his hands working on his swing.  He was an avid sportsman and loved tennis, basketball and bowling as well.  His backyard resembled a picture you would see in a home and garden show as he was always busy with a home improvement project. He was an all-around handyman who loved to make and improve things around the home.

Rod’s style was always on.  If he was out of uniform, he was impeccably dressed in matching sports attire (and probably the latest and most colorful matching pair of tennis shoes!)

Rodrick placed his faith in Jesus Christ as his lord and savior. He is loved, missed, cherished, and will always be remembered.

Rodrick is survived by his Wife Giovanna Kemp, his children (listed from oldest to youngest), Brandon, Jan-Michael, Cenea, Dexter, Brittany, Katelyn, Dallas and Grandson Banner.  His brothers, Delbert, Derrick, Matthew and Jeffrey and predeceased brother Oliver. God sons  Morgan and Mason
