Shirley Rand Obituary

In Loving Memory of Shirley Ann Rand

Age 87 | Passed Away Peacefully on June 4, 2025

Shirley Ann Rand’s radiant spirit and boundless love left an indelible mark on everyone she knew. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on July 10, 1937, to Victor F. and Irene M. Hitterman, Shirley was the youngest of five children and a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

At the tender age of 17, Shirley met her soulmate, Richard Rand. Their love story blossomed into a beautiful family of seven children. Their journey began in Cleveland, Ohio, then took them to the lively streets of Las Vegas, Nevada, and eventually settled for 33 wonderful years in Glendora, California. Through her 25 years of working at Thrifty Drug, Shirley’s meticulous nature shone brightly—she kept her cosmetic department in impeccable order and took pride in her work.

Shirley and Richard shared a passion for adventure, traveling across California in their motorhome, exploring new places, and creating lasting memories with friends. After retirement, they made their final move to Brighton, Colorado, where her family in Colorado and California brought her great joy and connection. She treasured her time visiting loved ones and touring California wineries in Temecula, where she would often fly to spend precious moments with family.

Her love for family was the guiding light of her life. Shirley joyfully hosted holiday feasts and Sunday dinners, bringing her loved ones together and filling their hearts with warmth and laughter. Known affectionately as ‘Granny,’ she was adored by her 30 Grandchildren and Greats, who treasured her loving spirit and contagious smile.

A woman of outgoing nature and sweet faith, Shirley was actively involved in her church community, where she formed lasting friendships and spent countless hours crocheting prayer shawls for her congregation. She delighted in visiting with family and sharing lively afternoons with her friends playing bingo, cards and scrabble, and enjoyed a good margarita with her daughters. Her bright personality and stylish collection of jewelry lit up every room she entered, and her ability to make others smile was truly extraordinary.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband Richard Thomas Rand; her children Eric Rand, Christine Harris, and Richard Rand; her parents; brothers Victor and Don Hitterman; and sister Irene Hitterman, Shirley leaves behind a legacy of unwavering positivity, love, faith, and connection.

She is survived by her eldest sister, Colleen Hitterman; her daughters Susan, Nancy, and Becky; sons-in-law Brian, Roy, and Jim; her grandchildren—James, Samantha, Joe, Amber, Aaron, Kelli, Brian, Jimmy, Michael, Laura, Kimberley, Danny, and BJ; and her great-grandchildren—Kiersten, Jasmine, Tori, Cayden, Carter, Carson, Peyton, Garrett, Joshua, Elizabeth, Caroline, Breyalle, Myles, Jackson, Maximus, and Presley.

To know Shirley was to love her. Her spirit will forever inspire us with her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love.

The viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 17th, from 12:00 to 1:00 pm, at Brighton First Presbyterian Church located at 510 S. 27th Ave, Brighton, CO. A funeral service to celebrate her life will follow at 1:00 pm, where we will gather to remember and honor her beautiful soul.
