Vidella Mondragon Obituary

Vidella “ Vidi” "Vi" Carmen Mondragon, 78, of Leadville, CO, peacefully passed away on December 27, 2023 surrounded by loved ones, after a difficult battle with pancreatic cancer. Vidi was born on June 24, 1945 to Elias & Celina (Salazar) Sandoval in the small town of Manassa, Colorado. Shortly after in 1948, her family moved to Leadville, where her parents eventually built a house in Stringtown to raise their growing family. Vidi was the oldest of her 12 siblings and helped her mother care for them growing up. Vidi met the love of her life, Joe Elevi Mondragon and they were married on February 17, 1962. They were happy to begin a family of their own when they welcomed their first son, Terry. 2 years later they welcomed their only daughter, Margie. And 9 years after that they welcomed their youngest son, David. Vidi enjoyed being a stay at home mom while her kids were young. She was an active member of the Catholic Church and rarely missed a Sunday mass. She was very proud of her strong catholic faith. Her and Joe enjoyed many years of bowling in leagues together and traveling for tournaments. Vidi entered the workforce and began her career as a cook/baker for Colorado Mountain College in 1978, where she perfected her famous cookie recipes. She retired after working for 32+ years. While retired, Vidi had time to pursue her love of crocheting, bingo, camping and spending time with her family. This was a very generous woman that made time to crochet blankets for many family member and friends. She was best known as Gram, Grammy or Nan by her grandkids whom she adored and loved coloring, cuddling, watching movies and enjoying popcorn with. She was also an avid Denver Nuggets and Denver Broncos fan and loved to watch games with her husband and family. Vidi lived a life filled with love, happiness, laughter and generosity that touched all the lives around her. She was a cherished daughter, sister, wife, friend and most notably a dedicated mother and grandma. She will be deeply missed every day and her legacy will endure in the hearts of all those lives she touched!

She is survived by her lifelong husband of almost 62 years; Joe of Leadville, her son Terry (Daisy) Mondragon of Westminster, daughter Margie (Floyd) Sanchez of Thornton and son David (Rachel) Mondragon of Brighton, cousin (whom she opened her home to) Jimmy (Janice) Mondragon. Grandchildren; Christopher (Crystal) Mondragon, Kristen (Greg) Lucero, Amanda Mondragon (Dominic Duran), Anthony Mondragon, Matthew (Nicole) Sanchez, Felissa (Greg) Nissen, Josh, Vanessa and Isabella Mondragon.
