Vincent “Vinnie” Clark Benally
Vinnie was born in Shiprock, NM to Nellie Werito and Thomas Benally.
He was of the Diné (Navajo Tribe). He was from the Red House People Clan, KinÅ‚ichÍÍ’nii (maternal) and was born for Mud Clan, HashtÅ‚‘ishnii (paternal side). He was the eldest of six siblings and was the father to eight children between the ages of 13 to 38.
Vinnie had his calling to the Marine Corps and spent 4 years serving this country. The Marines honorably discharged him and went on to work for El Paso Gas Corp., in the early 80’s. He spent his entire adult life working the oilfield as a Field Mechanic. An expert in the field, he served many companies; most recently with the Freedom Blue Crew of Liberty Oil. He completed several certifications to advance his skills and his coworkers would describe him as a great man all around.
When he was not working, you could find him cooking, making jewelry, or playing golf. Vinnie was referred to as the “burrito man” at work- always excited to make Navajo tacos, green chili, and burritos for his crew. He had a passion for making jewelry, this was deeply instilled by his family and heritage. Both his mother Nellie and grandmother Tillie were an inspiration, as he watched them while he was young. Sharing stories about how he would watch his grandma Tillie weave rugs and make jewelry, was a favorite pastime. His hands were full of oil and dirt, now every time we catch the aroma of fuel in the air- we will remember his smile, kind heart, and food.
He was a friend to many but most importantly he was a father, grandpa, son, brother, and uncle. Vinnie is survived by his children Amanda and her partner Eric of Bloomfield, NM, Krystle and husband Juan Carlos of Gypsum, CO, Damian wife Hanna of Albuquerque NM, David, Bryce, Shawnee, Michael, Tillie; along with his grandchildren Jewelysa, Jasmyn, Migel, ReyAnnen, Sammie, Karlo, Adien, Symona, Joziah, Henry, Serenity, Marena, Lola and Dexephra (Desi); along with two sisters Cindy Burns, Tammy Gutierrez, and three brothers Thomas Benally, Wally Benally, and Anthony Burns. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandmother and nephew Joshua Osborn.
