William "Bill" Barr Obituary

William Judson « Bill » Barr, successful businessman, competitive cyclist, loving husband and father, die-hard Denver Broncos fan, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Evanston, IL to Judson and Georgia (McVay) Barr in July 1937, Bill later moved with his family to Denver and graduated from East High School. An expert skier, Bill joined the Winter Park Ski Patrol until he was drafted into the US Army. Bill served 18 months in Germany as a member of the Signal Corp before returning to Denver to start his career in the grocery business. Bill worked his way up from clerk to become the owner of three independent super markets in Denver.

Bill was an avid bicyclist, often seen in the mountains and on the local racing scene where he was the state time trial and road champion in 1997. Bill did not limit his riding to Colorado and twice rode the USA coast to coast.  In addition, Bill volunteered his time to coach developing riders of all ages.

Bill was active in the business and bicycling communities having served as board member of the Rocky Mountain Food Dealers, Chairman of the Board of Associated Grocers of Colorado, president of the Colfax on the Hill BID, board member of Bicycle Colorado and president of the American Cycling Association board of directors.  He was a long-time member of Kiwanis.

Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years Sheri, sons Bryan (Anne) of Paris and Patrick of Aurora, grandchildren Melany(Corey), Helena, Hailey and Logan and great-grandson Charlie.   He is also survived by brothers, Browne (Sue) and Robert (Joan).  He was preceded in death by his sister, Marian.
