Robert T. Hill

Robert Thomas Hill (Bob), 86, of Commerce City, Colorado, passed away on February 18, 2019. He was born on February 12, 1933, in East Orange, New Jersey, to Louis and Eunice (Anderson) Hill. Bob graduated from Rockford High School in 1951. He attended the University of Illinois, UCLA, and earned his Bachelor of Arts in History (Greek, Minor) from Long Beach State College. He enlisted in the Army on May 29, 1954 and served during the Korean War.

Occupations: Pharmaceutical Sales, Pastor of Derby Bible Church, Founder and Teacher of Derby School of Theology (affectionately called DSOT), and Owner of Bible Discount (a Christian book store in Commerce City, CO).

He met the love of his life, Joan Gernand, in Chicago, IL. They married on February 4,1956. Bob and Joan lived in Ozark, Alabama for one year before moving to Los Angeles, California. In 1972, Bob, Joan and their six children moved to Denver, CO to pastor Derby Community Church (later renamed Derby Bible Church).

His father, mother, and brother, Richard Bowman Hill, preceded him in death.

Bob was a devoted family man. He LOVED being married to his wife, "Joanie Babe", for every minute of the 63 years they were married. He stayed in shape by playing racquetball at the Commerce City Rec Center three days a week for 25 years and eating two chicken tacos at Taco Bell every day (extra pico de gallo, please).

Bob's legacy lives on in the lives of the many people he taught and mentored. He leaves behind his loving family including his wife, Joan Gernand Hill, as well as his:

Children-Debbra (Steven) Blackwell, Brenda (Steve) Soucie, Bobby (Narissa) Hill, Bonnie (Eddie) Cook, Charlene Hunt, and Trisha (John) Kondur.

Great Grandchildren- Corey, Kate, Anne, Brooke, Brennah, Brecken, Violet, Ruby, Ivy, Lucy, Buddy, Adelle, Anya, Broden, Ethan, Chance, Antonio, Lemoni, Ziree, Caeylyn, Gavin, Weston, Landon, Shane, and Rhea,

Surviving in laws- Judy (Donald) Hammond, Joy (Ron) Kuykendall, Erwin (Sally) Gernand, and Jill (Cal Hardy) Gernand.

Service details: “He’s Home! Celebrating the life of Bob Hill” will be held on March 3, 2019, at 3:00pm, at Harvest Fellowship, 11401 East 160th Avenue, Brighton, CO.
